The Northern Rocks Story

Christmas Day, 1970, Seaton Carew, and the 5-year old mini-me gets his first Record Player, and a red leatherette box of 45's. Hooked from that moment, it sparks a lifetime of collecting records, and a thirst for knowledge of the vinyl world. The 1960's,Glam Rock, Punk, The New Wave, Rock, Soul....all consumed and collected on 12" and (mainly!) 7". Fast Forward to 2019, and a huge Record Collection of over 4000 items falls into my lap, most of which I already own. Hartlepool doesn't have a Record Shop...it always did...but where? How?


At around the same time, Kiwi Trading, a small Antiques warehouse in the town, was expanding. I'd been in there quite a few times over the years seeking out the odd box of records that would turn up and befriended the owners, even pricing up some of the better items. It was a perfect fit...Hartlepool's Vinyl Emporium was becoming a reality!


We started in a small area of the shop..then we moved...then we moved within the building again....and again....until finally in 2025 we went Full-Time and bought a Part-Share in the Emporium meaning we had access to a LOT more space right at the front of the building. One ACE shopfitter later (and a Coffee Bar installed!) and here we are today.The uptake from the great people of Hartlepool and the surrounding area has been massive.
